Description: This watercolor is a painting of the Black Head which is the largest headland on Mohegan Island. Painted in the full drama and colors of February, it has the iridescent light that is so unique to this out-to-sea island. Made famous by Rockwell Kent and George Bellows, Michael paints the subject on an unusually warm winter day in plein air. Painted on vintage handmade Whattman watercolor paper, Michael chooses to portray the subject in cool crystal clear colors as with stained glass, and emphasizes the rugged Atlantic Ocean reaching up the solid monolith. Michael is a signature member of the New England Watercolor Society and a recent winner of the Marilyn Sabin Award in the regional signature member exhibit at the Newport Art Museum in Rhode Island. His watercolors have been included in numerous group and one person shows and are in private and corporate collections throughout the country.
