Description: This is an amazing view of Katahdin from Rocky Pond, near Katahdin Lake in Baxter State Park. This shallow pond is a major spawning location for brook trout that swim up Katahdin Brook into Katahdin Lake. With car-sized boulders that mimic the shape of Katahdin this unique view is truly off the beaten path east of the farthest shores of Katahdin Lake and accessible only by bush-whack hiking from the Katahdin Lake Wilderness camps. One of Michael's favorite views, this painting was created in plein air in the Fall of last year on a beautiful sunny day with massive clouds that appeared like white rocks in the sky. Made famous by James Fitzgerald, Michael depicts Katahdin from the center of the pond on the southern side where there is more shades to study color better. Michael is a signature member of the New England Watercolor Society and has recently won the Marilyn Sabin award at the regional signature member exhibit at the Newport Art Museum in Rhode Island. His watercolors have been included in numerous group and one person shows and are in private and corporate collections throughout the country.
