Amy Kustra Barksdale
Freeport, ME

Amy Kustra Barksdale was born in the midwest and lived both in New York and California before being lured to Maine by the call of nature and the hope of a simpler life. She was passionate about art from a young age and could be found drawing in museums in Florence and Paris as a teenager. Although never obtaining a degree in art, it has always been a driving force in her life and after 20 years in the field of medicine, working as a family physician, she turned to art full time in 2015. Over the years she has studied with numerous artists both through private lessons as well as in continuing studies programs. Amy loves to paint outside in the elements or in close observation of a still life in her studio. She also is particularly drawn to the graceful lines of the human form and draws and paints regularly from the figure. Her work is also imbued with her love of travel and the people, cultures, and sights she has experienced around the globe. For Amy, painting is an expression of gratitude, an act of celebration and also a way to simply enjoy the beauty in our community and natural world. Her work is primarily in oil and gouache and she works in both Freeport and Portland, Maine.
