Betsy Bisson Woolwich, Maine Betsy Bisson is a Maine native. Having lived here all her life, she feels her roots and strong ties to Maine’s four seasons contribute as much to her success as an artist as all her many courses, workshops, and years of experience. When the last of her five children married she began formal art training at the University of Maine in Augusta and the Maine College of Art in Portland where she has completed courses in Drawing, Design, Painting and Printmaking. For the past 17 years she has enjoyed the winter months in the tropical setting of Sarasota Florida where she has taken courses at the Ringling School of Art and the Art Center of Sarasota. Member: Center For The Arts, Chocolate Church, Bath, Casco Bay Art League, Brunswick, Art Center Sarasota, and Boothbay Region Art Foundation Maine Prizes: Portland Sidewalk Art Show, Purchases Prize; Lewiston Sidewalk Art Show, Purchase Prize; B.N.A.S., Best In Show; Bath Heritage Day’s, Honorable Mention, Woolwich Historical Society, Honorable Mention, Creator of the Design for the Woolwich Town Seal. Proudest Accomplishment: Several years ago she entered and won a contest in her town of Woolwich to create a Town Seal. Today that design is on the towns stationary, tee shirts, hats, town fire trucks + emergency vehicles, flags, signs, yearly town report and even trash bags. For several years she was privileged to be the Artist in Residence on Gilbert Head, an island at the mouth of the Kennebec River and former home of Stephen Etnier, one of Maine’s well known artists. One of the paintings done there was published in Down East Magazine as a full page lead to a story by John Cole about the island.
