Cheryl DiCara, Brunswick, Me 207-653-9236; cdicara62@gmail.com Cheryl is a Maine native living in Brunswick; a mother and grandmother. She retired from a career in public health in 2013 and has been painting ever since. She loves living in Midcoast Maine. The ocean, skies, animals, birds, flowers, trees and many other beautiful sights provide continuous sources of inspiration for her work. She has had a strong need to create throughout her entire life. Her interest in art began in childhood when she often drew animals, birds and people. She began an art club in High School as there were no art classes in the curriculum. She took art classes in college. When her children were young, she painted their bedroom walls with murals of their favorite characters and also took adult ed classes. Thirty+ years of designing and making quilts helped her build a strong understanding of composition, color, value and design. One of Cheryl’s passions in painting is exploring and experimenting with color in her paintings. Another strong passion is painting birds. Her mother and grandmother both loved birds and Cheryl drew all of the birds in an entire Field Guide to Birds for her grandmother as a child. She enjoys conveying their beauty and their quirky personalities! She is very happily engaged in painting and tries to paint most days. She finds the painting process to be exciting, calming and centering. Becoming an artist, and being part of the Maine art community significantly enriches her life. She has taken numerous classes and workshops and continues to access as many opportunities for learning and growing as an artist as possible. She is grateful for every chance to display her work. She is especially thrilled when one of her paintings finds a home! Professional Affiliations: Cheryl is a board member of the statewide Pastel Society of Maine, an Executive Committee member of Sebascodegan Artists of Midcoast Maine and a member of Meetinghouse Arts in Freeport.
