Chris Harper-Fahey
Peaks Island, Maine

“Art in its essence is begets transformation, to paint in watercolors you must close your eyes and dream in color.” Artist is not what I do but who I am. I see the world in colors, shapes, impressions, and light. As a self-taught artist, I've been drawn to watercolors as a medium for over 30 years - the flow of the water across the paper as the pigment transcends itself in shapes and shadows across the surface - wet, dripping, and emerging to illuminate the light. I have been drawing since childhood but have refined my skills and techniques as a watercolor artist by taking classes and workshops with artists whose artistic styles I admire. It’s only been in my retirement over the past few years that I’ve been able to paint regularly and show my work to the public. I now live on Peaks Island where the beauty of the ocean, coast and woods stimulate all my senses so that I can become a better painter.
