20+ years into a business career, I found myself picking up a brush for the first time and 5 years later I made the joy of that pastime a pursuit. I focus primarily on landscapes and seascapes, having lived most of my life in New England with a deep love for the outdoors. I’ve been fortunate to study with accomplished artists from each coast, having lived for a time in both the Bay Area and Boston. In California I was capturing the atmosphere of hills, the play of light on farmland and vineyards, the color “vibration” when contrasting cools and warms naturally come together, and the motion of waves and reflections along the seaside. The New England influence inspired me to paint more rural and coastal scenes and now snowscapes-- what I am experiencing in my everyday life following my 2020 return home to Maine where I grew up. Whether with brushes or palette knives, I strive to capture what catches my eye: the vista through a window; nature’s “design” in a shell, leaf, petals or fruit; the dynamic range of neutrals on a misty morning or winter landscape; the movement of water and light throughout our marshes and harbors.
