Diana Johnson
Freeport, Maine

Diana Johnson paints Maine's colorful peaceful places. Painting is her way to share what she notices about the natural beauty of Maine. While standing at her easel in a field, cove, or marsh she enjoys the warmth of the sun and the feeling of the air moving around her. Johnson's first impression of a scene becomes a lasting impression when she paints it. "To gaze upon one of Diana Johnson's paintings is to travel through space and time to a place you may once have been or may yet to go, creating a longing for a certain feeling or ethereal quality that experience tells us is good" James Peak - Portland Press Herald 8/6/13 Johnson works primarily in oil and pastel. The more a painting seems to emit energy, as if from the paper or canvas itself, the happier she is with the results. She tries to suggest, with pigment, the essential vitality and liveliness that is inherent in tranquil, peaceful places. Her article, "30 Skies to Zen" was included in the August 2017 issue of the Pastel Journal. She retains Signature Member status with the Pastel Society of America and exhibits her works at Yarmouth Frame and Gallery.
