Irene McDonnell Gifford
South Portland, Maine

Irene grew up on the eastern shore of Long Island, New York in a family of many artists. She has been painting her whole life and especially loves the sea. She and her husband spent six years living in Paris where her appreciation for fine art grew. Returning from Paris, their young family settled in West Hartford, CT where she was a member of the West Hartford Art League for sixteen years. She also taught French in public schools nearby in Glastonbury and Windsor for twenty-two years. Having recently retired and moved to South Portland, she is now focusing full time on painting. Her favorite subjects are coastal Maine scenes she captures with her camera. Last summer she started painting plein air and Monhegan Island is becoming one of her favorite spots to paint.
