South Portland, Maine

About the Artist Jonathan M. Dunitz is a proud Mainer, who began life’s journey in Middletown, New York. An uncommon perspective is introduced to the art scene, as the man behind the lens is also a lawyer by day, and an accomplished musician. With jazz in his bones, Jonathan’s passion for New Orleans is distinguishable in his photographic capture of the Big Easy. His energy travels to the architecture of NYC, Boston and Portland, Maine, never missing the bigger picture of what surrounds him. As a trained professional in meticulous detail, Jonathan embraces all that can be discovered in both the old and the new. His photos tell today’s local stories of bustling, beautiful farmers markets. Forgotten Transport taps our shoulders to remind us of what is now history, as time and inventions move ahead. Jonathan exercises this appreciation of rust and shine, even in his use of equipment. He still shoots film to capture his subject matter, but has succumbed to scanning and digitally editing his work. This delivers a special composition, which Jonathan is thrilled to share. He has presented his work in numerous solo and group shows. In 2009, he was chosen as one of 12 New England Photographers to participate in the Photo Slam at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire.
