My interest in art began in my pre-teen years in rural South Carolina. My Uncle Luther brought me charcoal, newsprint, oil paints, and canvas to play with. He also gave me a Walter Foster book on drawing horses. So, my love for the outdoors and animals was integrated into my love for creating art. As a mature artist I am still creating, with my inspiration coming from the world I live in. Like the light cascading across the common objects in a home, giving the objects a poetic existence. Or the golden sunlight that rakes across the land, making mysterious shadow shapes. And sometimes it is the beauty of an animal in its own space that attracts my attention. I have exhibited artwork at venues throughout the Northeast including: the Golden Thread Gallery in West Hartford, Connecticut; the Alexey Von Schlippe Gallery of Art, University of Connecticut at Avery Point campus; the Hygenic Gallery in New London, CT; Beresford Gallery in Saratoga Springs, NY; Lyme Academy College of Fine Art in Old Lyme, CT; Imago Gallery in Bristol, Rhode Island; Pratt-Wright Gallery in Noank, CT; International Museum of the Horse, Lexington, KY; and the National Sculpture Society in New York, NY. I have been a member of the Bangor Art Society since 2018; in February 2020 I was awarded Best in Show at the BAS Annual Members’ Show. I earned my BFA from Lyme Academy College of Fine Art in 2004 where I studied sculpture and painting. Currently I live in Orrington, Maine with my wife and cat, and am excited to explore all the painting possibilities this state has to offer.
