Marcia Crumley
Cape Elizabeth, Maine

My landscapes have always been celebrations of color, and my recent focus on encaustic (hot beeswax) paintings has enabled me to incorporate more depth and texture into my work. I love the meditative processes of waiting for the wax to melt, slowly building up layer upon layer of paint, fusing the surface with a blowtorch, and then carving into and scraping away the wax. Encaustics is a very tactile medium, and I use pottery tools to create texture and patterns in my paintings, bringing me back full circle to my favorite childhood pastime of throwing pottery on a wheel. My art has been featured in Art New England, Maine Home + Design, Cultural Adventures, & the Boston Globe. After spending many summers in Maine, I moved here full time in 2018.
