Marlena Faxon
Yarmouth, Maine

Marlena Faxon is a Maine landscape painter who explores the reconnection of humanity with nature, and self with one's local place. Her work reminds us of our commonality, interdependence, and beauty. Informed by scientific studies that break down barriers between fields of biological sciences thus revealing the complicated web between humans and other living and non-living things, she explores an expanded field of landscape painting in forms that bind our bodies with nature from the microscopic to the grand. She does this with a multi-material and -process approach, using local landscape and color as inspiration and gathering material from the local landscape to use as tools for mark making. In reconnecting humanity to nature with landscape painting that reflects our shared biology and existence, Faxon’s work affirms the vital connection between our health and the health of our environment. Marlena is a recent 2023 MFA graduate from the Maine College of Art & Design, Yarmouth Arts Alliance Board President, proud parent of two children, and longtime resident of Yarmouth, ME. She supports many local groups that care for the land and waters of Maine and our local community.
