Michael Fillyaw
West Bath, Maine

I am a fine arts photographer from West Bath, Maine. My subjects include city streets, fishing villages, marshes, mountains, forests, and farmlands. I go to these places without expectations, but always with the same goals: chase the light, be present in the moment, and see what others miss. My representational and abstract images capture moments of beauty and insight that are grounded in a sense of place, evoke emotions, or tell a story. I am inspired by the interface of land, water, and sky, the passing of time, the circle of life, and the darkness on the edge of town. My photographs have been exhibited at the Art Guild of the Kennebunks, the Brickstore Museum, Kennebunk, the Kennebunk River Club, the Black Hole Gallery, Rockland, the Port Gallery, Kennebunkport, Maine College of Art & Design, the Maine Photography Show, the University of New England, River Arts Gallery, Damariscotta, Union of Maine Visual Artists, Portland, Yarmouth Art Festival, Kefauver Gallery, Damariscotta, the Lyceum Gallery, Lewiston. Select photographs have received awards including: 2021: Honorable Mention Black & White, Maine Photography Show 2019, 2016: Patron’s Award, Kennebunk River Club Art Show 2017, 2015, 2014: 1st Place Photography, Art Guild of the Kennebunks 2014: Honorable Mention, Kennebunk River Club Art Show 2014: 1st Place Special Theme Category, Maine Photography Show 2013: Best in Show, Free for All Exhibition, University of New England & Engine Gallery, Biddeford 2013: 1st Place Color & 3rd Place Black & White, Through the Lens Photography Competition, Lyceum Gallery, Lewiston 2011: Best Photograph, Brick Store Museum Photography Contest
