Sandra Lemmerman
Durham, Maine

After teaching in public schools in Freeport and Brunswick for 34 years, I began painting when I retired 12 years ago.I studied with local artist and phenomenal teacher Liz Prescott for most of that time and now paint with a group of artist friends in the Freeport Grange each week. I have shown my work in the Meetinghouse Arts Gallery since it opened, at Centerline in Yarmouth, several shows at Bonobo in Portland, in addition to the Yarmouth Art Festival for the past four years. As for subjects, I love light and the drama it brings to any scene, the way it changes color, and the shadows and reflections it creates that make patterns and mood. Maine’s landscapes and water scenes provide so much material for interpretation, but I also enjoy florals and figures in the landscape. I often make use of photography and cropping to find an image I want to interpret in paint. It is gratifying to find a true passion and have the time to explore it.
