Description: This oil was painted in Plein air on location in February on Mohegan Island, Maine. The snow was a few feet deep and I set up my easel in the shadow of the ravine at Gull Rock to capture the light of the morning sunrise. There is a very clean color found in the atmosphere on an island out-to-sea in winter, especially in the morning when the air is fresh. This painting has a wonderful sense of warm and cool color balance that is indicative of this stoically raw but serene island. It is framed in a solid cherry wood floater frame which also complements the colors of the painting.
